Simplify your Photographs with Aperture

One of the most important principles to remember when out in the field, is simplify. Chaos is not beauty; it strangles the eye. To have visually pleasing photographs, you need to emphasize your subject and reduce all distractions. Composition is most important. Compose your photograph so distracting elements will not be included. Widening your aperture (using a small f number) to decrease the depth of field will also help simplify. This will result in less of your photograph being in focus, helping the eye to center on your subject. See the difference?
