Tip: Isolating your Subject

Have you ever came to a beautiful scene, but not taken a picture because of ugly objects in the area. Bridges, junk, or people? The solution: zoom in with your camera. Even if you aren't doing it for the reasons first mentioned, zooming in on the subject of your picture can strengthen your composition. If you are taking a picture of a friend, try zooming in on them so only their shoulders and head are in your photograph (In addition to this, I normally use the rule of thirds with almost all portraits). Below are two photographs of Brandywine Falls, in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. One was taken with a "normal view" while the other was zoomed. Which one do you like best?
